Darien High School Ranked #9 in CT

After coming in third the past two years, Ocean Springs High School has finally climbed the hurdle and been named the best high school in MS in the U.S. News & World Report annual rankings of all U.S. high schools, released Wednesday.

The National list of the country's best High Schools was released on Wednesday (May 9), and 15 Connecticut High Schools were ranked among the 500 best schools nationwide.

Graves County High School ranked 51st, with a graduation rate of 94 percent and a college readiness rating of 16.8. John Hardin also earned a bronze medal and the nationally recognized distinction.

Two other schools in this region were ranked among the top 71 schools in the state, which is where the rankings ended. "I'm fortunate enough to work with a highly skilled staff that truly cares for students".

Oak Mountain and Spain Park high schools also ranked in the top 20 past year. The magazine analyzed state reading and math assessment scores, demographic information, graduation rates, and college-readiness measurements such as Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate exams.

Barstow High School and Academy of Careers and Exploration in Helendale each earned a bronze level, despite not being ranked.

Academy for Academic Excellence in Apple Valley was the next highest ranking school in the High Desert.

University Preparatory earned silver status with a No. 106 ranking in California and 620th in the nation. Build your school system, build your community if you would.

"We take great pride in helping students reach their full potential and to have students respond the way they have in everything they do is quite remarkable", Smallwood said.

SM East, South and Northwest earned "Silver Star" status in this year's rankings, a distinction given to just 11 percent of high schools considered which denotes high performing schools.
