Cannes Film Festival in court over Terry Gilliam dispute

Cannes Film Festival in court over Terry Gilliam dispute

Does feminism clash with the glamorous side of Cannes -the red carpet, for instance? First off, the omnibus film Ten Years Thailand, featuring four short films about Thai society at a crossroads, will screen in the Special Screening section; it's the sole Southeast Asian film in Cannes this year (we'll have more on that tomorrow). On Tuesday, Fremaux said people come to Cannes to see films "not to be seen". "The whole world has changed". "There will be more and more (female filmmakers) in the future".

The movie industry "has to be part of the solution", Schiappa told the Thomson Reuters Foundation in an email ahead of this year's festival, which she said should be the "basis for liberating and listening to women's voices". But it was the news of making it into the highly prestigious Competition line-up at the festival that sent the entire team into clamorous celebrations, the sounds of which could be heard reverberating throughout Labaki's social media accounts. Russian director Kirill Serebrennikov will also be absent as he is under house arrest in Russia on charges that his supporters say are politically motivated.

Nouvelle Vague provocateur Jean-Luc Godard is premiering latest work in the competition, "Le livre d'image".

The festival has warned attendees that they could be denied entry to a premiere if they take personal photos on the red carpet.

Von Trier was also reinstituted this year after being banned from the festival Cannes ban in 2011 for joking about being a Nazi and having sympathy for Hitler.

"He is not anti-Semitic".

DuVernay, the filmmaker of "Selma" and the Netflix documentary "13th", said that the power of movies is the ability to "speak to each other through cinema".

Willow Smith learned about sex by walking in on parents
The " Girls Trip " star welcomed Union to her new Facebook Watch show " Red Table Talk ". Look for " Red Table Talk " to premiere on Facebook Watch on Monday, May 7.

The world's biggest film festival has moved to align itself with the #MeToo movement against sexual harassment that has reverberated around the world since Weinstein's downfall.

Assamese film Village Rockstars, Malayalam film Bhayanakam, Bengali movie Nagarkirtan, and Sinjar, a film from Lakshadweep made in the Jasari language, will be showcased at the festival's India Pavilion, organised by the Ministry of I & B along with FICCI. "There are several women in competition".

Will a female director obtain the festival's highest accolade, the Palme d'Or?

Just one of the three women competing for the Palme has done so previously. In a statement sent to press in the last few weeks, Cannes director Thierry Frémaux explained: "We want to make the most of this new decade to explore, experiment, question our customs and practices".

"Last year was episode one".

The award ceremony will be held on Saturday, May 19.
