Senators condemn assassination attempt on Ahsan Iqbal

Doctors of Lahore's Services Hospital have on Monday declared condition of Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal stable while Medical Superintendent (MS) has stated that two bones of Ahsan Iqbal's right arm were fractured and no bullet was retrieved from Iqbal's stomach yet.

According to the announcement, the Punjab government formed a five-member joint investigation team (JIT), comprising members from the police department as well as intelligence agencies, to conduct an investigation into the attack. "We know the motive of this attack but I want to tell that this is a very risky game being played against the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N)", Information Minister Marrium Aurengzeb said adding that "this politics of hatred" should be stopped now. He has been taken into custody. They named the suspected shooter as Abid Hussain, 21, and said they had found him carrying a pistol. "We know the motive of this attack but this is a very unsafe game being played against the PML-N", Information Minister Marrium Aurengzeb said.

Education activist and Nobel Prize victor Malala Yousafzai, condemned on Sunday night the assassination attempt on Interior minister Ahsan Iqbal.

The Opposition Pakistan People's Party co-chairperson Asif Ali Zardari said the country had to "put a stop to such incidents", Dawn reported.

Violence has been a feature of pre-election periods in Pakistan over the past decade, mainly due to Islamist assassinations of political figures, including former prime minister Benazir Bhutto in 2007.

He said new technologies are the new revolution and one should not ignore the fact that digital age is going to shape the future. The government regards them as illegal immigrants from Bangladesh despite the fact they have lived in the state for generations.

They all condemned the attack and wished him a speedy recovery.

The interior minister of Pakistan is recovering in hospital after surviving what officials say was an assassination attempt.

Popular opposition leader Imran Khan and his PTI party demanded a probe into the attack. The suspect then claimed that he committed the act because he was upset with the PML-N government over the change to the offending clause in the Constitution.

Blasphemy is a deeply emotional and politically charged issue in the country. However the man who hurled the shoe was arrested and later freed after Iqbal pardoned him.

The attack was swiftly condemned by the global community as Pakistanis voiced fears it represented an attempt to weaken democracy ahead of the federal elections, widely expected to be held late this summer.
