Army Green Berets Secretly Support Saudis Comb At Threat From Yemen Rebels

US Green Berets are helping Saudi Arabia locate and destroy Iranian-backed Houthi ballistic missiles and launch sites in Yemen, according to The New York Times.

Twelve Green Beret soldiers were deployed in December a year ago, the paper reported, following Houthi rocket fire towards Riyadh.

According to the Times, which cited USA officials and European diplomats, the Army's special operations soldiers arrived in December to help Saudi counterparts locate launch sites and destroy the Houthis' missile supplies.

At a meeting at the US Congress on 13 March officials from the Pentagon told senators from the Senate Armed Services Committee that American personnel in Saudi Arabia were focused mostly on border defence.

There is no indication that the US commandos have crossed into Yemen as part of the mission.

Responding to the Times report on Thursday-which indicates the USA has significantly escalated its involvement in Saudi Arabia's war on Yemen-Sen.

The local military source, who asked to remain anonymous, said that the government forces air-covered by warplanes of the Saudi-led coalition heavily attacked the Houthi-controlled area of AlBarh in the western part of Taiz.

A batch of United States special elite forces is militarily supporting the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen, according to the Independent newspaper.

"The firing of ballistic missiles at populated cities and villages is contrary to global humanitarian law".
