Gazans killed by Israeli fire after infiltration attempt: army, medics

Six Hamas militants were killed and three injured on Saturday evening in a mysterious explosion at a house in the town of Zawayda in the central Gaza Strip.

Ashraf al-Qedra, the Gaza health ministry spokesman, told Xinhua that five were killed and six wounded, adding that doctors are trying to know the identity of the dead people.

An Israeli military spokesperson said she was not aware of the incident.

Gaza health officials said 10 people were hurt.

Kibbutz Kissufim and Kibbutz Be'eri, both situated only tens of kilometers from the Gaza border have encountered fires caused by the flaming kites often identified due to the Palestinian flag decoration.

That's a tournament we're going to and he's brought in some excellent staff with him. "In that match, we did not turn up at all". Apart from me and (Subrata) Pal and may be Jeje (Lalpekhlua), everyone is a youngster and eyeing a place in the team.

But Hamas's armed wing blamed Israel.

Hamas said that Israel "will pay a heavy price" for the Saturday explosion. In the past, explosions in the Gaza Strip were occasionally caused by the accidental detonation of explosive materials that were being handled by the militants in the Palestinian enclave.

Apart from the fatalities, more than 5,500 Palestinians have been injured since Israel began responding to the popular protests with lethal force.

Attempts by Gazans to enter Israel have spiked in recent weeks during the "Great March of Return" protests.

Also Sunday, Hamas' supreme leader, Ismail Haniyeh, was among thousands of Palestinians who attended funerals held for militants.

As Israel celebrates its 70th independence anniversary, the Palestinians are demanding that the Palestinian refugees forced to leave their homes during the Arab-Israeli War in 1948 be allowed to return.
