Five militants killed in J&K gunfight

"Encounter concluded at Badigam Zainpora Shopian, five bodies of terrorists recovered. Well done boys - Army/ CRPF/J&K Police", Shesh Paul Vaid, DGP, Jammu & Kashmir said.

Massive clashes broke out between groups of stone-pelting youth and security forces near the encounter site, leading to injuries to five protestors, the official said.

"However, when the demonstrators were trying to march towards the area where the encounter was going on, security forces immediately swung into action and stopped them". The spokesman said the identities of the slain militants are being ascertained.

During the encounter 5 militants of outlawed Hizb-ul-Mujahideen were killed.

Bhat, a contractual assistant professor in the Sociology department of the university, went missing on Friday. He said the police brought his family from Ganderbal to persuade him to surrender.

Three Palestinians shot dead by Israeli forces
Israeli forces have killed 42 Palestinians since Gaza residents began staging protests along the border fence on March 30. Israel says its soldiers only open fire when necessary to stop infiltrations, damage to the fence and attacks.

There were angry protests in the university campus on Saturday as students asked the authorities to locate Bhat.

Violence has increased in the last two months and this year so far 131 people have been killed in Kashmir, including 72 militants, 31 civilians and 28 Indian security personnel.

A doctor confirmed the death and said that he had firearm injury in the head.

The University of Kashmir has made a decision to suspend class work for two days as a "precautionary measure", in wake of the killing of the missing Professor in the Shopian gun fight on Sunday.
