Cleveland Browns: Josh Rosen bothered executive

Cleveland Browns: Josh Rosen bothered executive

It seems like for the Browns, it was more character concerns.

Jack Mills, who represents Baker Mayfield, indicated today the Patriots expressed interest in moving up to the No. 2 spot (that would have meant a trade with the Giants) in order to draft the Heisman Trophy victor if he wasn't selected by the Browns No. 1 overall. I'd like to think this wasn't a factor in choosing Mayfield over Rosen, but this is the Browns. The Browns are 1-31 in the last two seasons, and have picked their leader who can hopefully get them over the hump, and finally last as a quarterback in a Browns uniform.

"I said it at the (NFL) combine", Mayfield said. You could have played with me back in Miami. General manager, John Dorsey, and company stunned the National Football League world and some Browns fans by selecting the Oklahoma quarterback as the first overall pick.

This draft class will determine whether the Broncos will go into a complete rebuild or if they can prop their Super Bowlwindow open a little longer.

So basically, while everybody else was hemming and hawing about Baker Mayfield's character and whether or not he was just the next Johnny Manziel, the Browns front office was like, nope, we've seen Johnny Manziel, and this guy is not him.

However, Mayfield insists he's his own man.

Penn State Football Christian Campbell Selected By Cardinals In Sixth Round
"Going into the day, I knew I could be (drafted)", Cole, the 97th overall pick, said on a Cardinal conference call late Friday. And Thursday night, in the first round of the National Football League draft, the Cardinals made a big move for their future.

"I am so thankful that I am here", Mayfield said of being drafted by Cleveland. The Jets selected him No. 3 overall. Obviously, my immediate family, the friends, the coaches, the people that helped shape me when my family wasn't there; it was everybody who was a part of the whole process. Let's go to work! In early April, the Patriots showed an affinity for Mayfield, according to the New York Daily News. Mayfield broke down and cried.

His journey began with him walking on at Texas Tech in 2013, where he started as a true freshman until he got hurt.

"It just kind of brought out all of the emotions of the tough times that we went through and the good ones", he said. "Baker's going to compete and however that unfolds it unfolds, but right now Tyrod is the starter".

At Oklahoma, he was college football's top player last season, passing for 4,627 yards, 43 touchdowns and winning the Heisman last season. But Mayfield wasn't coming back to OH without facing more questions about his infamous flag plant.

So not only did the Browns appear to get their man, but a player who was highly thought of by other teams as well.

"My faith says every man deserves a second chance", Dorsey said. Even though they won six games a year ago, this is a lot of expectations from this young team, and this will certainly help them.
