Trump threatens countries which oppose US World Cup bid

"The US has put together a STRONG bid w/ Canada & Mexico for the 2026 World Cup", Trump posted on Twitter on Thursday.

However, soccer's worldwide governing body, trying to clean things up after a big corruption scandal, pointed to its rule book today in response, suggesting there should be no political interference in the process.

Morocco is the only challenger to the united North American bid to host the prestigious FIFA World Cup Finals.

In announcing the joint bid a year ago, then-U.S. Soccer president Sunil Gulati said the effort had Trump's full support. Samoura, who described the complaint as "ridiculous and baseless" has now been told that the matter is closed. Diouf is also reported to be subject to an ethics investigation.

"Visa also: Europeans don't need a visa to come to Morocco".

Morocco needs to build or renovate 14 stadiums and more than 100 training fields, while the North American bid has already selected 16 tournament-ready venues and has a surplus of team bases.

BBC sports editor Dan Roan suggested Trump's threat "seems at serious risk of breaching FIFA's rules against political interference". The Fifa president is not involved in this process and he will not take part in the vote of the congress.

Yu Darvish strikes out eight Brewers, gets no-decision
Rangers 6, Blue Jays 4 • Ronald Guzman hit a tiebreaking two-run single in the sixth inning, and Texas beat visiting Toronto. Darvish left with the Cubs ahead 2-1, but Christian Yelich hit a seventh-inning sacrifice fly off Brian Duensing.

Trump met this week with President Emmanuel Macron of France, which has historical ties to Morocco and where French is widely spoken.

The US hosted the tournament back in 1994 while Mexico hosted the 1970 and 1986 editions. It was our obligation to learn from this and leave no room for any doubt or subjectivity.

"Anyone criticizing this approach should be able to say if they would prefer a return to the old ways".

The news comes amid Morocco's suspicions over the impartiality of Federation Internationale de Football Association task force, which has conducted a visit recently to the African country where it deemed that stadiums need to be upgraded. Morocco is looking to become the second after submitting four other bids in the past.

There are some bitter differences between Mexico and the United States over subjects such as trade and border walls but on one point they are united: World Cup soccer.

American officials made efforts to host the 2022 World Cup, but lost unexpectedly to a bid from Qatar.
