Amazon partners with Best Buy on smart TVs

Amazon has teamed up with its retail-rival Best Buy in a multiyear partnership to sell the second generation of smart TVs running Amazon's Fire TV operating system.

Amazon Chief Executive Jeff Bezos and his Best Buy counterpart, Hubert Joly, showed off the tie-in at a Bellevue Best Buy on Tuesday, according to USA Today.

Rivalry aside, these two companies have worked together in the past with Best Buy selling Amazon products like the Kindle and Amazon Echo range but nothing to this extent.

Jeff Bezos, founder as well as CEO of Amazon, points out that Amazon has always been collaborating with Best Buy, and the latest partnership now takes things to the next level. "Amazon partners with Best Buy because of its industry-leading role in bringing the latest technology to millions of customers", says one header.

"Best Buy, with a very large physical footprint, lets people come into the stores and see the product, which is very important", said Bezos.

Best Buy began selling Amazon's Kindle e-readers almost a decade ago.

Customers in the United States will get access to the first Fire TV Edition smart TV from Toshiba beginning in the summer and additional models to be released later in 2018. A consumer can connect any HD antenna and instantly use Alexa to search for and watch broadcast TV, or to choose from a catalog of streaming TV episodes and movies from Netflix, Prime Video, HBO, PlayStation Vue, Hulu, and others. Tens of thousands of Alexa skills are already accessible today, allowing you to have awesome entertainment experiences, view and control your smart home connected cameras, lighting, security systems, and more.

A Toshiba smart TV will get a Fire TV Edition this summer, launching through Best Buy, but more models will hit the market later this year.

What is doubtless most interesting about this smart TV partnership is the potential it offers for voice activated TV based shopping via Alexa on Amazon. Customers can learn more at www.bestbuy.com/FireTVEdition or www.amazon.com/FireTVEdition.
