The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame Inducts The Class of 2018

The ceremony took place yesterday on 14th April at Public Auditorium in Cleveland, Ohio. Bassist Alec John Such left the band in 1993, while guitarist Richie Sambora departed in 2013.

Sambora thanked his fans and bandmates. They all hugged as a group afterward.

When Jon hit the stage, he shared that he's been writing this acceptance speech for years. "Some days I write a thank you speech and other days, I write a (expletive)-you speech".

The Democratic governor hailed the band as "one of the most famous, enduring rock bands of all time".

"He was my first and only choice to induct us tonight", said Bon Jovi after a heartfelt speech accepting the honor. Shock jock Howard Stern did the honors for Bon Jovi. He even sang some of "Wanted Dead or Alive", getting the audience to join in. The rock band, who scored four Top 10 singles during their 1979 to 1985 heyday, celebrated their induction into the Rock Hall's Class of 2018 with a tight set of three of their familiar songs.

The couple had traveled from Chicago to watch their all-time favorite band, the Moody Blues, be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on Saturday night. Cornell hanged himself in a Detroit hotel hours after a Soundgarden concert there last May.

Soul legend Nina Simone and Sister Rosetta Tharpe, the gospel inspiration for early rockers, both of whom were posthumously inducted, and British rockers Dire Straits rounded out the 2018 Hall of Fame class. He began by milking the crowd for a standing ovation before saying a word. Day, a Grammy-nominated R&B singer, hit high notes that also earned her applause. Blige inducted Simone, calling the singer "bold, strong, feisty and fearless".

"In the absence of someone here to induct us, I felt as a founding member I might be best qualified to do this", Illsley said. Her brother, Jon Wayman, accepted the enshrinement trophy on her behalf. Flowers recalled the first time he heard The Cars while growing up in a tiny, "no stoplight" town in Utah, saying "40 years later they still sound like a new band to me".

Blige feels a deep connection to Simone and said the women share an ability to ease people's pain and "help people heal".

He also told the crowd, "If you're sampling (Nina's) music, you better pay for it!"

Instead, inductees the Moody Blues ended the night as the last act.

The Cars members bass player John Illsley and keyboardists Alan Clark and Guy Fletcher were at the ceremony, but frontman Mark Knopfler was absent. "Mark gave this band its unique style", Illsley said. "Songs are very profound in a way, because you're connecting with humanity", he said. "Let's just leave it at that".
