Ozark School District taps Bauman as next superintendent

On Monday, Schwarz Wolf and other Munster School Board members said they were unable to comment on pending litigation. A board vote previously had been scheduled for its March 13 meeting, but Bryant pointed out the board "wanted to postpone" until it received more information, adding that the board wanted "every bit of information.before a final decision".

Resident and Dover High School teacher Kathy Spencer also urged the council to pass the budget.

"The impact is, the government can send us a letter at anytime, saying we're changing the whole governance situation in the Prince George school district", trustee Tony Cable said during the meeting.

A letter sent by board chair Tim Bennett to Fleming on February 28 said that trustees had voted unanimously to support the current at-large system. Regardless of what happens, she says she has no plans to run for school board when her term is up in November.

The board also is seeking funding to pay for an additional school resource officer, the cost of which would be split with the city of Gardiner.

On the other side, Fran Meffen, a Dover Middle School counselor, called the district's budget thoughtful and was supportive of its passage, noting it was not just because she was an employee.

Penny Kentish McWilliams, director of state and federal programs at Beecher Community School District, and Mark Whelton, a financial independence consultant for Michigan Department of Education, were slated to be interviewed again on Friday, April 13.

Today's meeting starts at 6 p.m.in the board room at district headquarters, 2029 West DeKalb St., in Camden, and is open to the public. The state allows it specifically for low-performing schools who apply and receive approval from the state Board of Education.
