According to the company, the vehicle will be more fun to drive.

The 2018 Focus gets a completely new design that's sportier and sleeker with a lower roofline and longer body. Sitting on a new platform, the Focus has a longer wheelbase that should open up more space for backseat passengers. Because Ford ditched the out-going Focus's low-level trim levels to focus (sorry) on its best-selling trims, it actually means that the new model's range starts at over £2,000 less than the outgoing model.

There's just one diesel engine available and it's a 2.0-litre 150ps unit. This includes Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with Stop & Go, Lane Centering, Speed Sign Recognition, an adaptive front lighting system that avoids dazzling oncoming motorists when using full beam and, first for a European Ford, the option of a head-up display.

The global Focus will include a Wi-Fi hotspot for up to 10 devices, available wireless charging and the automaker's new Ford CoPilot360 suite of advanced driver assist technology that Ford says varies by global market.

Having said that, Ford has revealed enough details about this all-new Focus, sans pricing and official fuel consumption figures.

Floyd Mayweather addresses UFC rumors, Conor McGregor incident in Brooklyn
Floyd Mayweather has thrown a subtle jab at former UFC champion Conor McGregor , following the Irish fighter's legal troubles. Appearing on a Showtime broadcast Saturday night, Mayweather reiterated that he is contemplating a return to combat sports.

"This complexity reduction helps Ford lower and control costs while ensuring Focus customers can more easily and quickly find the model that meets their needs", the company said.

The sporty ST-Line grade stands out with an aggressive rear diffuser, large roof-mounted rear spoiler and front apertures, and unique lower wing elements created to direct air to the air-curtain inlets. The five-bar chrome grille has also been revised for the upgraded model. In Europe the Focus adds two additional options: a 1.5-liter EcoBoost gasoline and 2.0-liter EcoBlue diesel. In addition, Ford also made the Focus more aerodynamic, with the five-door boasting a drag coefficient of 0.273. It's not on sale yet as it is only expected to hit showrooms in Europe and China later this year, followed by the rest of the world in 2019.

Power is fed to the front wheels by a choice of a six-speed manual transmission, or a new intelligent eight-speed automatic that adapts its shift patterns to driving style and is controlled via a new rotary gear shift dial. It will also enable the Ford Pass smartphone app to perform a variety of useful functions such as show you where your vehicle is, check fuel levels, remote start the engine (only for the eight-speed automatic version) and remote lock or unlock the doors. The new Focus will host driver assistance tech, connectivity and creature comforts that haven't been found on previous Focus sedans or hatchbacks. The next-generation Focus will be tailored to each global region.

Engineers have revamped the chassis and suspension with a 20-percent increase in torsional rigidity.

Ford's Sync 3 system takes care of the infotainment via voice commands or a 20cm colour touchscreen that can be pinched and swiped like a smartphone, while smartphones can be wirelessly charged on an inductive pad.
