'A Quiet Place' Made A Lot of Noise at the Box Office

Adding in worldwide earnings, A Quiet Place is already standing on $71 million after just a few days in wide release. At least six senior Paramount executives have been replaced in the a year ago.

John Krasinski is enjoying a new, unexpected level of success with his horror movieA Quiet Place. Already the highest-grossing superhero film in United States history, its cumulative total in the USA and Canada now exceeds US$665 million. The weekend was up 35.3 percent from a year ago. At No. two, Steven Spielberg's & "all set Player a single" made $25 million in 4,234 locations in its second weekend, bringing its complete national grosses around £ 97 million.

The Village, which holds the record for most successful opening for an original horror release by people who are picky about the genre guidelines, sold 8.2 million tickets in it first weekend back in 2004.

A Quiet Place's fellow new wide release Blockers came in at third place with $21.4 million, not a disappointing sum for an R-rated comedy.

As for Black Panther, the Marvel film has become the third highest grossing movie in North America with a tally of $665 million. The top two domestic earners remain Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($936.6 million) and Avatar ($760.5 million).

Chappaquiddick, about the 1969 Ted Kennedy scandal, opened in seventh place.

Sensex loses 93 points in early trade
The Sensex rose 571.31 points or 1.73 percent to 33,590.38 and the Nifty gained 185.90 points or 1.84 percent at 10,314.30. The tension could also be felt on the Chinese yuan, which suffered its biggest daily fall versus the dollar in two weeks.

A Quiet Place was not the only new release out this weekend because Universal Pictures launched its amusing comedy called "Blockers". The controversial drama also exceeded all expectations with $5.8 million or $3.6k per theater. As the family crosses a grocery store, you can see that all the food has been taken from the shelves - except bags of chips, possibly because they make the most noise while opening, as a reddit thread pointed out.

For one weekend, at least, just about everything Hollywood could throw at moviegoers worked.

Finally, Wes Anderson's Isle of Dogs cracked the top ten with $4.6 million, giving it a three-week total of $12 million after expanding to over 500 locations. The scribe duo said Krasinski wanted Simmonds to play the character of Regan Abbott, his on-screen deaf daughter in the film about a family trying to survive in silence.

That received some support from one of the film's producers. The Arclight Hollywood in L.A. greatly helped with that average as Phoenix introduced or did QnAs after nearly every single screening, which is a rarity as far as these things go.

Check back later this evening for updated numbers based on actuals, and on Thursday, I'll have a preview of the coming weekend, which includes Dwayne Johnson's Rampage and Universal/Blumhouse's horror film Truth or Dare. Just last week Gal Gadot aka Wonder Woman called Reynolds out on Instagram, even more recently than that Reynolds hilariously roasted his own mother.
