Toyota expands its standard CarPlay offerings with 2019 RAV4 and Corolla Hatchback

However, it's a European design, based on the Toyota Auris sold across the pond, and so is the new Corolla Hatchback.

The new Toyota RAV4 will arrive in the United Kingdom in the first quarter of 2019. The new RAV4 remains true to its impressive heritage as the original pioneer of the recreational SUV segment, making significant advances in powertrain technologies, dynamic performance, intelligent safety provisions and all-round quality.

Slightly shorter yet with a 1.2-inch longer wheelbase, the 2019 RAV4 benefits from a unibody chassis that is 57 percent more rigid compared to its predecessor. It's an all-new AWD system that can distribute 50 per cent of the power to the rear wheels when needed and also send it individually to the left or right rear wheels for improved cornering and rough-road ability. It also uses makes sure the set of dog clutches completely disconnects the rear wheels under normal operation.

Toyota has not officially revealed the power and torque ratings of both the engines yet but expect the hybrid to be more powerful as it is plonked on to the XSE Sport variant with sporty mechanicals like stiffer suspension and all-wheel-drive configuration with Multi-Terrain Select for driving in different surfaces.

Unfortunately for fans of the original model, the RAV4 has lost much of its initial identity (established on the first and second generations) in terms of styling.

For the 2019 RAV4 Hybrid model, the same 2.5L engine is used, with slight detuning for MPG improvement, and an electric rear drive system as in the previous generation RAV4 Hybrid. It wants to be loaded up with a kayak and a mountain bike on its roof, with mud splashed over its chiseled, 4Runner-like and Tacoma-inspired grille and beefy fenders. Hybrid models will arrive in showrooms in 2019. While again Limited, Adventure, and Hybrid models offer distinctions, the general theme is classy and contemporary.

The 2019 RAV4 will come equipped with Toyota's Entune 3.0 infotainment as standard, which includes Wi-Fi Connect (Verizon), Amazon Alexa hands-free access, and Apple CarPlay compatibility. There is Sirius XM satellite radio, satellite navigation, and an 8-inch display.

As many as five USB ports are available inside the CUV, and there is an optional 11-speaker, 800-watt JBL audio system.

On the safety front, the Toyota RAV4 comes with Toyota's Safety Sense, which includes features like forward collision warning with pedestrian detection and emergency braking, dynamic cruise control, lane departure warning with steering assist, and auto high beams.

Two engine options will be available - a petrol and a petrol hybrid.

The 2019 Toyota RAV4 will go on sale in the third quarter of 2018 with the RAV4 Hybrid model being available in the fourth quarter.
