India Ranks 133 In World Happiness Index, Way Behind China And Pakistan

As it turns out, in general, the happiest nations also have the happiest immigrants - Finland, Norway and Denmark also top this list.

The report ranks countries by happiness levels based on six key factors: income, freedom, trust, healthy life expectancy, social support and generosity.

The Nordic nation headed up the 156-country ranking, followed by last year's victor Norway, Denmark, Iceland and Switzerland. It wasn't a surprise given America's chaotic situation and being governed by a maverick in Donald Trump.

The Nordic nation topped a list of 156 countries ranked in the World Happiness Report on factors such as life expectancy, social support and corruption.

"The most striking finding of the report is the remarkable consistency between the happiness of immigrants and the locally born", said Helliwell in a news release.

The top 5 countries are the same ones that held the top 5 positions in last year's World Happiness Report, but Finland vaulted from 5th place to the top of the rankings this year.

Pakistan's ranking has improved from its neighbouring countries, which were also enlisted in the world's happiness ranking including Bangladesh which ranked 115, Sri Lanka 116, India 133 and Afghanistan which ranked 145.

Meik Wiking, CEO of the Copenhagen-based Happiness Research Institute, said the five Nordic countries that reliably rank high in the index "are doing something right in terms of creating good conditions for good lives".

Mr Cohen and White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders have both said the president was unaware of the payment. Clifford, and neither reimbursed me for the payment, either directly or indirectly", Cohen said.

Under the current NDA government, India has seen a significant decline in the World Happiness Index as it ranked at 122 position in 2017 and 118 in 2016.

This year's happiness report looked at migration and how this affected wellbeing. The landlocked country's history is rife with civil war, coup attempts and ethnic cleansing. One of the poll's examples showed that Russian immigrants who moved to Israel have a much happier and better life than in the former country.

Israel's happiness index moved down only 0.134 percentage point.

The survey also found Americans were getting less happy even as their country became richer.

According to the report, the happiest countries in the world are Finland, Norway, Denmark, Iceland and Switzerland.

In fact, among the wealthier countries, the differences in happiness levels had a lot to do with "differences in mental health, physical health and personal relationships: the biggest single source of misery is mental illness", the report said.

The 170-page report also reflected emerging health problems like obesity, depression, opioid crisis, especially in the USA who emerged as the leading nation with this health deformities.
