LaLiga: Barcelona agree option to sign Arthur

Barcelona says it has reached an agreement with Brazilian club Gremio for the option to buy midfielder Arthur for 30 million euros ($37 million) plus variables that could reach 9 million euros ($11 million).

The Brazilian, 21, has been a long-term target for the Catalans following an impressive Copa Libertadores campaign last term.

The Spanish LaLiga football club said in a statement on Sunday (March 11) that they can activate an option to sign the Brazil Under-20 global in July by paying a basic €30 million (S$48.7 million) plus €9 million in add-ons.

Arthur had plenty of Premier League interest, notably Chelsea and Manchester United, but the player had his heart set on a move to Spain where he would link up with Brazilian compatriot Philippe Coutinho.

They had very few three-pointers to speak of; in other words, they were the opposite of what the NBA is supposed to be today. In fact, not only do they have deficiencies, but they do not even have the tools or resources to resolve those deficiencies.

If Barca exercise the option, which they can in July, the transfer will cost €30million plus €9m in add-ons.

He progressed to the first team under former coach Luiz Felipe Scolari and was called up to the full Brazil squad in September although is yet to make his debut.

Do you think Barcelona need more attacking players?

Arthur is a Brazil Under-20 global and has played 51 times for Gremio since breaking into the senior team in 2016.
