With this, the NDPP leader has assumed the charge of Nagaland chief minister for the fourth time.

The NPF, unseated by the Rio-led Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) and BJP combine in the recently held Assembly polls, emerged as the single largest party with 26 MLAs.

"'We have also chosen to conduct the function at this historic place in honour of the people we are to serve and to also remind ourselves publicly of the responsibilities that lie upon our shoulders", the chief minister said.

Rio has maintained that he has been a supporter of the peace process between the Naga rebels and the Indian government and has always worked to resolve the standoff in a manner acceptable to the people.

The NPP had contested the Assembly election in alliance with the Naga People's Front (NPF), but after the declaration of the results on March 3, it had made a decision to support the NDPP-BJP alliance.

The lone Janata Dal-United MLA, G Kaito Aye, and Independent legislator Tongpang Ozukum were also joined the Cabinet.

As per the information, BJP chief Amit Shah and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh will attend the ceremony in state capital Kohima today along with Meghalaya's newly-appointed Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and his counterparts from Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Manipur.

With the BJP choosing to go with its pre-poll alliance partner the NDPP, Zeliang is set to be the leader of the opposition in the assembly.
