He was later signed by Oakland - and is now still under contract with Raiders organization - but hasn't played since 2015.

Oakland Raiders linebacker Aldon Smith, suspended by the National Football League since 2015, has checked into rehab after an alleged domestic violence incident, TMZ.com reported.

According to the Mercury News, "the victim called police again, saying Smith bit her wrists and climbed out her window, possibly fleeing in a black Range Rover, according to dispatch audio reviewed by this news agency".

San Francisco police have sought Smith in connection with the incident, but Smith's fiancée - who told TMZ she was the victim - said her parents took him to rehab at his request.

"I can tell you this".

"I wish the best for Aldon", she told TMZ.

After the hit-and-run, San Francisco cut their seventh-overall pick of the 2011 draft.

He was sentenced to 20 days in jail after pleading no-contest to a hit-and-run charge from an incident on August 6, 2015, for which he was charged with driving under the influence for the third time. During the 2014 season, he missed nine games for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy.

Smith hasn't played for the Raiders in more than two years, but the one-year contract he signed on April 4, 2016 would have been valid should he ever have been reinstated by the NFL. He has 47.5 career sacks.
