Jeff Sessions Just Had Dinner With A Very Interesting Guest

In a statement, Mr Sessions fired back, calling his decision "the appropriate process" for complaints against the Justice Department.

Rep. Peter King, R-N.Y., told Fox News he understands where Trump is coming from about the organization of the investigation, but he doesn't think the president should be criticizing his attorney general in public.

In Trump's Wednesday morning tweet, he asked why Sessions is allowing the inspector general to investigate potential Justice Department abuse of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA). "Will take forever, has no prosecutorial power and already late with reports on Comey etc", Trump wrote in the tweet.

Trump has had rough patches with most of his top officials at one point or another, but there is a particular poignancy in his humiliating treatment of his own attorney general, who got on board the Trump Train early and supports the president's policy instincts as much as anyone. Why not use Justice Department lawyers?

How credible would it be if Sessions, a big Senate supporter and surrogate of the Trump campaign, who's recused himself from the Russian Federation probe, was overseeing an investigation of how the Obama DOJ handled a surveillance request against a Trump adviser who had contacts with Russian Federation?

White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said the White House supports efforts to investigate the FISA program, which allows USA intelligence and law enforcement officials to obtain secret surveillance orders on Americans suspected of being foreign agents. She was asked Tuesday about the president's reaction to Sessions' announcement of the investigation into FISA abuses.

President Barack Obama appointed Horowitz as IG in 2012. Not only would Trump struggle to find a replacement who could pass the Senate's muster, but Sessions has signaled on numerous occasions that he will not resign.

Tuesday early voting results are third-highest
Incumbents William Pickrum and Ron Fithian, both Democrats, and Republican Bill Short are seeking another four years in office. In the Senate , 36 Republicans ran unopposed in the 2016 primary, and 29 Democrats were unchallenged.

Mr Trump and Republicans had also been encouraging Mr Sessions to look further into the surveillance abuse allegations.

Trump blames that move for the eventual appointment of special counsel Robert Mueller to oversee the sprawling investigation.

On Wednesday, Trump complained that Sessions wouldn't corroborate a conspiracy theory of a widespread conspiracy in federal law enforcement against Trump.

"It is time, knowing the facts as we have them, that the Attorney General has to do his job, serve the American people, and the rule of law and the constitution", Sean said. Conservatives rallied to Sessions' defense, particularly in Congress, and Trump backed down.

Trump's tweet on Wednesday, however, suggests his patience with this thread of his defense might be running out. Last year, the president raged against Sessions' decision to recuse himself from all matters related to the ongoing Russian Federation investigation, telling the New York Times he regretted appointing Sessions in light of his recusal and referred at the time to the attorney general in a tweet as "beleaguered". Trump clearly fears the investigation will deny him the results he wants - a finding of abuse as claimed by his GOP House ally, Rep. Devin Nunes of California.

Alabama's former senator, Jeff Sessions, was the most important political figure supporting Trump's candidacy in the early stages of the presidential competition. Some even speculated Trump crafted the tweet after being counseled by someone outside of the administration.
