The devices both come with very identical designs and vary only in terms of specifications, The Asus ZenFone 5Z is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset and has AI enhanced features that make use of the Qualcomm Artificial Intelligence Engine while the ZenFone 5 comes with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 processor. The Asus ZenFone Max (M1) is very similar to the ZenFone Max Plus (M1) that was launched in Russian Federation last year, before being made available in the U.S. earlier this year. The ZenFone 5 and the ZenFone 5Z are expected to hit the Indian shores in the coming months. It's not technically the same phone, but design-wise, there's no difference.

The ZenFone 5 arrives in April, while the ZenFone 5Z will show up in June. The screen is expansive, bright and vibrant. Two versions of this device include 3GB RAM/ 32GB internal storage and 4GB RAM/ 64GB internal storage. There's an iPhone X notch in the 6.2-inch display, but it's advertised as smaller than that on the iPhone X. There's also a vertically oriented dual camera setup on the back.

The ZenFone 5Z has an intelligent dual-camera system that adapts and learns, delivering flawless photos every time.

AI Camera is a feature that will help adjust your photos and allows you to choose which photos you like. Calls in busy places will ring louder than calls in the middle of the night. The device also includes features like - Face Unlock feature, and several real-time beautification features.

Like the iPhone, facial-recognition technology can be used to unlock the device, and to create animated ZeniMoji avatars for use in text conversations, video chats and livestreaming. It will be live streamed on Asus' press website.

But it's unfortunate that Asus wasn't able to bring the 5Z to MWC.

Bluetooth music listeners should have a fine audio experience with the Zenfone 5, as it supports Qualcomm AptX HD audio and Sony's LDAC. The company is also touting a Face Unlock feature. The ZenFone 5Z also introduces AI Charging to maximize the battery lifespan and provide total protection.

In MobileSyrup's brief hands-on time, we noted how premium the mid-range device felt and were impressed by the responsive camera, as well as the vibrant, clear quality of the pictures we took. The ZenFone 5 just happens to be one of the first to do so.

Back in 2014, Asus kicked off its Zenfone journey in India with the Zenfone 5 which went on to become one of the highest selling budget smartphones.

The Zenfone 5 Lite has a 2160x1080 pixel screen resolution filling its 6-inch screen, which has an 80.3 percent screen-to-body ratio. With 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage, the ZenFone 5Z starts at just $499, and delivers the best available smartphone performance at an incredible value.

Running Android Oreo-based ZenUI 5.0, the smartphone comes in two variants based on Qualcomm's Snapdragon 430 and Snapdragon 630 chipsets. There is also a wide-angle lens that offers a 120-degree field of view enabling you to capture expanded landscapes and easier group shots in cramped up spaces.

On the imaging front, the ZenFone Max Plus M1 sports a front-facing f/2.0 selfie camera alongside a dual rear-camera setup and wide angle lens. The hybrid slot of the Asus ZenFone 5/5Z supports either a second LTE SIM or a microSD memory card up to 2TB. It will be available in Midnight Black, Moonlight White, and Rouge Red colour variants. The ZenFone 4 had a 16:9 5.5-inch display. The camera and other apps were quick and responsive, and it took excellent pictures - albeit not quite as good as the ZenFone 5. Pricing and availability of the smartphones haven't been revealed as yet.
