PM Modi launches Tamil Nadu government's Amma scooter scheme

"Under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, the registry of the house is done in the name of the woman", Modi said.

Modi symbolically handed over the keys and registration certificates of two wheelers to five women on the occasion, reports PTI. "These initiatives will go a long way in empowerment of women and protection of nature".

"When we empower women, the entire household is empowered". By extending education to women, you are educating the entire household.

Stressing on the achievements of his government, Modi said the focus is on improving "Ease of Living" for the common citizen. It would offer subsidy of Rs 25,000 to one lakh women for the purchase of two-wheelers.

The prime minister also took a dig at the Congress.

Beginning his address in Tamil, Modi, who was given a rousing reception by the AIADMK and the BJP cadres, said, "On the occasion of the birth anniversary of J Jayalalithaa, I pay my tributes to her and extend my greeting and best wishes to the people of Tamil Nadu". He also announced that seventy lakh plants will be planted across Tamil Nadu on Jayalalithaa's 70th birth anniversary. But when the NDA government came to power it received 1,80,000 crores under the 14th Finance Commission. The union government was also working towards the modernisation of fishing. The Factories Act will be amended to permit women to work at night.

As the statue was unveiled, firecrackers were burst and candies distributed among party cadre who raised slogans hailing Jayalalithaa.

70th birthday of the former chief-minister was observed with gaiety all over the State by AIADMK cadres.

The Prime Minister further said that he is glad to launch the Amma's dream project - the Amma Two Wheeler Scheme.
