Jags, Bortles finalizing 3-year extension

Jaguars signed QB Blake Bortles to a new three-year, $54 million contract that includes $26.5 million guaranteed.

"Everybody dreams of making $100 million and the quarterbacks are expected to sign that big deal", Bortles added.

Jacksonville had previously picked up Bortles' $19 million team option for the 2018 season.

Despite playing with the injury, Bortles had the best season of his career. His postseason play may have convinced the Jags to continue building with him. "So happy and relieved and obviously extremely excited". That was one of my goals from the start.

I think you have to look at guys like Case Keenum, A.J. McCarron, and Tyrod Taylor if he becomes available as a free agent.

The Jaguars (10-6) won the AFC South for the first time in team history and made the playoffs for the first time in a decade.

However, Maldives has dismissed the global community's concerns, saying that "public statements are unhelpful". The court said his 2015 trial had been unconstitutional.

Bortles helped Jacksonville reach the AFC Championship game this season before the club lost to the New England Patriots. He has a career rating of 80.8, having completed 1,318-of-2,229 passes for 14,928 yards with 90 touchdowns and 64 interceptions.

Bortles didn't exactly have a full complement of receivers, either. He also lost top target Allen Robinson on the opening series of the season opener.

These pieces in place should allow for Bortles to build off last season and make the next leap in his development. "Blake has proven, with toughness and dependability, that he can be the leader this team needs going forward". He first went out to California after his rookie season and had what appeared to be a breakout season in 2015: franchise records in passing yards (4,428) and passing touchdowns (35).

However, he also threw 18 interceptions that season.

Bortles regressed in 2016, and Coughlin, who was hired in January 2017, put him on notice to cut down on turnovers.

Bortles will be just 26 when the next season starts and he already has 61 National Football League starts and 90 touchdown passes under his belt. But as we would point out earlier, Bortles' numbers thus far are fairly underwhelming through four seasons. He is 21-40 as a starter.
