Delta, United ending group travel discount for NRA members

David Hogg, a student at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, where the shooting occurred, has called out FedEx for continuing to offer its discount in the wake of the shooting and amid the protests.

In a tweet Saturday, Delta said it is asking the gun lobby to "remove our information from their website".

Several companies in the USA have ended long-held customer discounts for National Rifle Association members following the Florida massacre.

"We focus on engaging with the company and understanding how they are responding to society's expectations of them", BlackRock spokesperson Ed Sweeney told Reuters.

Clayton-based rental vehicle giant Enterprise Rent-A-Car is dropping a discount for National Rifle Association members.

As well as this, First National Bank of Omaha which is the largest privately held bank in the United States, said it would not renew its contract with the NRA.

Still, Rep. Tom Rooney, R-Fla, said the president has a "unique ability right now to maybe really do something about these school shootings" because, at least in some districts, "nobody is more popular", including the NRA.

"Banks and other companies are sensitive to being on the wrong side of a social media campaign, which can spread pretty quickly these days", said Erik Gordon, a University of MI business professor who has taught classes on marketing. "A lot of business, a lot of people. they're anxious about their visibility", said Frederick Probol. Vague at first wanted the deal, but "morally resolute" colleagues brought the team "to a firm 'no, ' because of the assault-weapons issue", Vague said.

By comparison, the vaccine in the flu shot is 40 percent to 60 percent effective in most flu seasons, according to the CDC . A total of 200 people have died as a result of the virus since the flu season began October 1.

"Evil walks among us and God help us if we don't harden our schools and protect our kids", said NRA executive vice-president Wayne LaPierre at the Conservative Political Action Conference on Thursday. The companies were among the 22 corporations offering discounts and "five star savings" to the gun lobby's members, as detailed on the NRA's "member benefits" page.

"Much like AARP or AAA, the organization promotes its discounts for members as a selling point for why people should join", ThinkProgress wrote. "There are only 5 million NRA members but over 300 million of us!"

On Tuesday, ThinkProgress, a liberal-leaning think tank, published a list of some two dozen "corporate partners" that offer incentives to NRA members.

While many are supporting the boycott, others have spoken out against it.

But some are major national and global companies. "Doing business with the NRA is clearly bad business".

The insurance company, which offered perks to members including group discounts on auto insurance, told Bloomberg on Friday it had ended the program. Representatives for both Avis and Hertz were not immediately available to comment. Enterprise Holdings-parent of vehicle rental companies Enterprise, Alamo, and National-as well as Symantec and First National Bank of Omaha have all dropped their partnerships with the N.R.A.

Next, Enterprise announced on Twitter in response to a growing call to boycott the NRA that "all three of our brands have ended the discount for NRA members".

Florida Governor Rick Scott, who has been endorsed by the NRA, announced a proposal on Friday to increase restrictions on buying guns and to strengthen school safety measures.
