Iran's Zarif slams Netanyahu's 'cartoonish circus' after drone stunt

"I can assure that if Iran's interests are not secured, Iran will respond, will respond seriously". He also scolded Germany for allowing Iran's Mahan airline to land at Munich's airport, saying it might as well "cut a check" for Iranian terrorist activities. Donald Trump, the United States president, has frequently called the Iran nuclear deal a bad one.

Former U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry says it is "absolutely critical" to make sure that world powers' nuclear agreement with Iran survives.

France, Britain, Germany, Russia and China, which signed the nuclear deal along with Iran and the USA, say the accord can not be reopened, that it is working and that Iran is allowing inspections. "It's not a better place", he said during a panel discussion on regional security.

Kerry said it was "fundamentally not accurate" that Iran could obtain a nuclear weapon within the 15-year period until the deal ends.

"The problem is the waters have been muddied because of this credibility issue about America's willingness to live up to any deal", he said. He said that, among other things, the inspection system needs to be more intrusive.

"Now there has been one positive outcome of Iran's growing aggression in the region".

In his first address to the annual Munich event, which draws security and defence officials and diplomats from across Europe and the US, Netanyahu warnedhis audience of a need to immediately counter Iran.

Netanyahu urged policy makers to avoid the mistake of Munich negotiators who failed to stand up to Adolf Hitler 80 years ago for fear of provoking a conflict. "Rather than choosing a path that might have prevented war... those well-intentioned leaders made a wider war inevitable and far more costly".

'Its unleashed a unsafe Iranian tiger in our region and beyond, ' said Netanyahu, criticising the Nuclear Agreement.

"Mr. Zarif do you recognize this?"

But Netanyahu said the worldwide community should impose sanctions on Iran that are "crippling".

Under pressure back home and facing possible corruption charges, Netanyahu took to the stage at the Munich Security Conference Sunday to deliver a warning about the security of the Middle East region, accusing Iran of posing an existential threat.

Tehran says it wasn't Iran's drone.

In response, Zarif slammed what he called Netanyahu's "cartoonish circus", adding it "does not even deserve the dignity of a response". Israel last fought a war against Hezbollah in 2006, while tensions between Israel and Lebanon have increased recently, including over a maritime border dispute.

The references were to the two cases (1000 and 2000) in which police have recommended indicting the PM, the submarine affair (3000), in which PM Netanyahu's personal lawyers are implicated, though he is not, and the Bezeq probe (4000).

On Sunday evening, Netanyahu denounced the investigation. "The media witch hunt continues at full force".

Among Israel's main concerns is Lebanon, where Hezbollah - the heavily armed Shia movement backed by Iran - is part of a coalition government. "He's the smooth-talking mouthpiece of Iran's regime", Netanyahu said. "We will act without hesitation to defend ourselves".
