No Evidence of Shooting at Highline College, Authorities Say

After hearing reports of the sound of gunshots in the area, and because the location is a school, officials made a decision to lock it down, said Jarod Kasner, a commander with the Kent Police Department. After the threat, the college initiated an immediate lockdown for students to barricade their doors and windows while law enforcement secured the campus and evacuated buildings.

Highline is a community college in Des Moines, Washington, according to its website, a few miles south of Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.

The school reported the lockdown about 9 a.m.in alerts to students and staff and in Facebook posts: "This is not a drill".

Police in Renton, Washington, near the Highline campus, said they were among the agencies responding to the reports.
