Rusty Serena defeated but USA advance to semis

Serena Williams played in a tennis tournament in front of her baby daughter Alexis for the first time this weekend.

On Sunday, husband Alexis Ohanian and their daughter, Alexis Olympia, cheered on Williams from the sidelines of the Fed Cup tennis competition in Asheville, North Carolina.

It was Serena's first competitive match since winning her 23rd Major at the 2017 Australian Open.

In Asheville, the first match back was something of a litmus test for Williams, who spoke earlier in the weekend of the ups and downs she has experienced in trying to get back into the rhythm of waking up every day and hitting the practice court. "I didn't manage my time well, but I was thinking about it, in the future, how to manage it better". I feel like that's a very good step in the right direction.' When asked to elaborate on what she felt she had to improve in her game, she noted, 'I'm always a 360 kind of person. "It was hard. It was the first time for me".

"I didn't expect to have that much power on my serves", she said.

After all, if the drone had not been over Israeli airspace, it would have been far harder for Israel to justify its actions. The military says it is "ready for various scenarios and will continue to act according to situation assessments".

"It was really special to be back out here with Venus and we're so happy Team USA won today", Serena Williams said in quotes published on the official Fed Cup website. "We knew it just 30 minutes before the match". "Honestly I like to think CoCo wore her down some".

Williams' last title was at the 2016 Australian Open before she took time away from the circuit to give birth to her little girl.

She was born weighing 6lbs 14oz on 1 September, and joined her 23-time Grand Slam champion mother at her wedding to Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian in Rome only 11 weeks later.

But she hinted on Sunday she could make herself available for selection for the US' next round clash in France in April. "So many Americans are doing great, hopefully I'll be able to be an option, I'll be doing better by then", she said.
