Second White House staffer resigns amid abuse allegation

His first wife Ivana Trump said in a 1990 divorce deposition that he pulled out a handful of her hair and raped her after an argument about a scalp-reduction surgery.

But in private, the president is believed to have issued rare criticism of a woman who by some estimates is the most influential figure in the administration after Trump himself.

Trump's comments drew immediate condemnation from women's groups and Democrats.

"White House chief of staff John Kelly must resign", said Van Pelt.

Though the Federal Bureau of Investigation never revoked Porter's security clearance - which it could have - questions were raised about how Porter could be granted access to state secrets with such potentially incriminating blackmail material hanging over his head.

Deputy White House press secretary Raj Shah said Hicks later "recused" herself from some aspects of the matter. "We immediately confronted the staffer, he denied the allegations and he resigned today", said Shah. Sorensen worked for the Council on Environmental Quality, which is part of the Executive Office of the President.

Sorensen told WaPo in a text message that he resigned because "didn't want the White House to have to deal with this distraction".

The #MeToo movement continues to shape our society into a more female-friendly environment, so when Trump recently appeared to support the side of men, the internet collectively (and unsurprisingly) rolled its eyes. The White House's official position is that all of Trump's accusers are lying. Kelly, along with Porter, helped organize the West Wing's policy and decision-making process and infused the staff with a clearer sense of objective, officials said. He said talk of Kelly's departure is "much ado about nothing". By early fall of 2017, it was widely known among Trump's top aides - including chief of staff John Kelly - that Porter was facing troubles in obtaining his security clearance and that his ex-wives claimed he had abused them.

Andrew Harrison scored a season-best 23 points to lead Memphis, which has lost five straight games and seven of its last eight. Hood, Hill, and Johnson were amongst some of the biggest names being thrown out in trade talks leading up to the deadline.

He insisted to White House officials that he had quickly pushed Porter out once the allegations proved credible, The Washington Post reported. But in the case of Porter, it was Kelly's management of the staff that is in question. Kelly, meanwhile, was Porter's loudest defender, including in the first hours after the graphic photos of alleged abuse emerged. "And literally that was it".

Trump has begun floating possible names for a future chief of staff in conversations with outside advisers, according to three people with knowledge of the conversations but not authorized to discuss them.

Sorensen denied the allegations, and told the Post that Corbett had "punched him on multiple occasions;" he provided "photos of what he said were injuries his ex-wife inflicted upon him during their fights, including bruises and scrapes". In addition to Mulvaney, the others are House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, Rep. Mark Meadows and CIA Director Mike Pompeo.

Though Trump frequently vents about senior aides, he is often loath to fire staffers. In a statement released Wednesday evening, Kelly said he was "shocked" by the "new allegations" against Porter.

"You've got to have political judgment and you've got to think ahead as to what can happen that could damage the president and, for whatever reason, that didn't happen here and he's now going to pay a price for that", said Panetta.

The president has offered similar defenses in the past, such as after former Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore was accused of having inappropriate relationships with underage girls.

David Sorensen, a White House speechwriter, resigned Friday after a news report detailed accusations from a former wife who said he had abused her during their marriage.

"These outrageous allegations are simply false", he said.
