Rafa Benitez says Newcastle's win over Man Utd will give team confidence

Mourinho felt the need to defend Pogba from criticism this week with the likes of former Man United players Rio Ferdinand and Wayne Rooney suggesting that the current midfield setup in the team wasn't making the most of his ability, with his form suffering as a result.

Nemanja Matic, who starts alongside Pogba in midfield, told Sky Sports ahead of the game: "I've played here a couple of times, it's always hard when they play good football [because] the crowd is behind them for 90 minutes".

Newcastle made a strong start and were nearly ahead after five minutes when the ball broke to Jonjo Shelvey on the edge of the box and his strike brought an excellent save from David De Gea.

"We were doing well for a while and then we were defending but the teamwork and the way they fought for every ball was wonderful".

"It wasn't going to happen for us today".

"They gave their lives to keep a clean sheet", he added.

Saints defender Wesley Hoedt made a hash of dealing with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain's pass, allowing Salah to tee up Firmino for a clinical finish.

'Salah has surprised me, I didn't think he'd get anywhere near the goals he's got.

Cubs land Yu Darvish on six-year deal
Since undergoing surgery, Darvish has a record of 17-17, with a 3.64 ERA, in 287 innings pitched, and 341 strikeouts in 48 starts. The Cubs didn't need to get a whole lot better to be the consensus favorites in the NL Central, but that's exactly what happened.

The Red Devils, meanwhile, now sit just four points clear of third-placed Tottenham, who beat Arsenal on Saturday, while Liverpool face Southampton on Sunday.

"It was not a brilliant performance. That is very important", Klopp said.

Mourinho has a dismal record at Newcastle, failing to win a single game in six trips. "We showed the character, passion and commitment that we have shown for the rest of the season".

The Scotland global struck 65 minutes into a pulsating contest at St James' Park to end the Magpies' wait for a league win at home at the ninth time of asking.

Junior Stanislas equalised for Bournemouth with a cool finish from Ryan Fraser's cross seven minutes later.

With 53 minutes gone, Smalling headed the ball across the area and Lukaku headed in but the referee had seen a push, and the striker just failed to get on the end of a deflected Sanchez shot moments later.

Rajiv van La Parra converted a stoppage-time penalty to lift Huddersfield out of the drop zone.

Newcastle had been in the bottom three at kick-off time following Huddersfield Town's win over Bournemouth.
