Kansas projected to be No. 2 seed by NCAA Tournament selection committee

The NCAA Division I basketball committee released its top 16 teams at this point in the season on Sunday and Clemson has impressed the committee with its play thus far. Despite Michigan State's two top-five wins, it has only a 3-2 record in its "Quadrant 1" games, against top-30 teams at home, top-50 teams at neutral sites and top-75 teams on the road. Instead, the Spartans were named as one of the four No. 3 seeds. The other three top seeds if the season ended now would be Villanova, Xavier and Purdue. Clemson was the No. 9 seed (No. 3 seed in Midwest Region) and North Carolina was the No. 12 seed (No. 3 seed in West Region).

UA's 81-67 win over USC clearly helped the Wildcats stay among the top 16 seeds. Duke, 3. Texas Tech, 4.

Michigan State's strength of schedule this season, according to the NCAA's formula is now ranked No. 114, according to's Kyle Austin.

Texas Tech would be a third seed in the NCAA Tournament if it began today, according to a mock selection show put on Sunday by CBS. They earned a No. 4 seed in 1987 and also in 1997. Kansas, North Carolina and Arizona filled out the top four in the West Region in Los Angeles.
