Two Ohio police officers shot dead while responding to 911 call

The Westerville Division of Police confirms two officers have been shot and killed Saturday afternoon on Crosswind Drive. He asked OH residents to join him in "lifting up these officers' families in prayer".

Morbitzer said the officers were two of the best in his department.

Mobitzer calls the 39-year-old Morelli and 54-year-old Joering "true American heroes". "This was their calling, and they did it right", Morbitzer said, choking back tears. The Columbus Division of Police will be handling the investigation.

Morelli had served on the force for 29 years, while Joering had been with Westerville police for 16 years.

The two officers were responding to a 911 call at the address in Westerville.

Republican Gov. John Kasich, who lives with his family in a nearby township, tweeted that he was "very saddened to learn of the deaths of two of my hometown police officers".

The shootings happened at about 1 p.m.in Westerville, Ohio.

"It is with a heavy heart we report a second Westerville officer has been killed in the line of duty".
