Captain, three soldiers killed in Pakistan shelling in J&K's Rajouri

"Pakistan army resorted to unprovoked shelling and firing on the LoC in Bhimber Gali (BG) sector of Rajouri today (Sunday) evening with small arms, automatics and mortars".

Four army men including a young captain were killed and five others including an army man, two BSF personnel and two civilians injured in the Pakistani troops firing along the LoC in Rajouri district yesterday.

Pakistan has been frequently violating the ceasefire and the Army says that the current phase was an escalatory ladder.

Ruling PDP MLA Javaid Beig said that instead of provoking Pakistan, the House should appeal to both the countries to start a dialogue to resolve outstanding issues.

The ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan was signed in October, 2003.

During this government, he said, as many as 340 jawans and officers have lost their lives, along with 194 civilians, and what is more shocking is 10 soldiers including officers having been killed in February this year alone.

The statement also said that heavy damage was inflicted on a Pakistani post in retaliatory action.

He added that Turkey as chair of Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) had taken a "strong moral and ethical position" to send a fact-finding mission to Kashmir.

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh also warned on Monday that the Army will give a befitting reply to Pakistan, a sentiment echoed by two other Union Ministers.

There were as many as 860 ceasefire violations along the LoC and another 120 along the IB in 2017, the highest-ever such tally in over 15 years.
