What might have been: Concept shows Fluent Design on Windows 10 Mobile

Despite Microsoft's mobile platform is dead, today yet another Windows 10 Mobile concept is making rounds on the internet.

The update is part of an ongoing effort by Microsoft to address concerns about the amount of data collected by Windows 10, with European regulators even threatening enforcement action over the issue.

But what has caught the attention of many Windows 10 users is the fact that Microsoft is now more open about what diagnostic data is collected from the users' PCs.

Microsoft has revealed an app that lets Windows 10 users see exactly what data it's collecting from their PCs. That includes peripherals and basic data about other devices discovered by the computer on your network.

"It's important to note that this functionality is not meant to capture user viewing or, listening habits", Microsoft said.

Installed applications and install history, device update information.

In addition to the viewer app, Microsoft has revamped its Privacy Dashboard, providing users with a clearer view of the data that is saved to their Microsoft accounts.

As this screenshot shows, the viewer might be easy to navigate, but the data itself is typically binary. However, the company is also saying that it will expand the capabilities of the new Dashboard to allow users to delete data that has already been collected. However, this is related to activity data, not the diagnostic data.

Product and Service Usage data provides details about usage of the device, the operating system, and applications and services.

Microsoft also announced that it has updated its Microsoft Privacy Dashboard with a new Activity History page.

Participants in the Windows Insider Program will have the first opportunity to explore all of these new features.

The private and the paranoid will probably think the new diagnostic data changes are the highlight of the new build.

When Windows 10 S was announced past year, these apps were made available in beta form, mainly as a way of showing how complex apps can be ported from Win32 architectures using Desktop Bridge rather than the Universal Windows Platform (UWP).

Windows 10 build 17083 includes a new Windows Diagnostic Data Viewer application that's created to show "the diagnostic data your device is sending to Microsoft".

Microsoft's and its partners' engineers use the telemetry data from Windows 10 to diagnose crashes, learn about its users hardware configurations and more.
