Fire officials said prima facie the cause of the fire appears to be the ongoing welding work being done by the Public Works Department (PWD) department.

According to sources, well-known Hindi TV serials Bepanah and Haasil were being shot at the studio when the fire broke out. Fire officials stated that the fire-fighting system was not working and they found that the management had compromised with fire safety norms.

According to a sessions court official, the judges presided over their respective courts as usual from 11 am. The fire was confined to a 3,000 square feet ground-plus-first floor area of the studio where shootings are usually held. There were about 150 people trapped inside who were successfully rescued.

Both these fires came a week after a major tragedy at Mumbai's Kamala Mills, where 14 people were killed after in a midnight blaze at a popular pub. A technician was killed in a fire that broke out at Cinevista studio in east central Mumbai on Saturday.
