The global smart speaker market is poised to grow to 56,3-million shipments in 2018, as the technology prepares itself for accelerated adoption in the consumer market. Google will be showcasing its products at CES this week in Las Vegas.

This year, smart speaker shipments in the USA are expected to reach 38.4 million units. Plus, according to the research firm, smart speakers are now the fastest-growing consumer technology. The survey also suggests that sales of smart speakers will have reached the third of the population of major markets, such as China, India, the US, Brazil and Mexico by the end of the year.

A recent study from Juniper Research found that smart speakers such as Amazon Echo, Google Home, and the Sonos One will be installed in over 70 million US households by 2022, reaching 55% of all homes. "Traditional hardware vendors have been cautious at the beginning, but with deep-pocketed Alibaba ramping up investment in the category, and Xiaomi launching lower priced skews of its XiaoAI smart speaker, the market will be ignited in no time".
