Ford's Diesel F-150: 30 MPG on the Highway

Ford's Diesel F-150: 30 MPG on the Highway

Peak torque on the new Power Stroke diesel comes at only 1,750 rpm, and continues throughout the rpm range for ideal towing or hauling for extended periods of time.

Ford dealerships will stock the diesel trucks beginning in spring 2018. Other manufacturers such as Toyota and Nissan don't offer diesel variants of their half-ton pickups.

Fleet customers can order the diesel F-150 in SuperCrew with a 5.5- or 6.5-foot bed and the SuperCab with the 6.5-foot bed.

The objective of diesel grunt is a serious work ethic, and Ford anticipates best-in-class ratings for the new F-150 option: 2,020-pound payload and 11,400 pounds towing.

Despite its impressive capabilities, Ford is bullish with the engine's fuel economy ratings.

Ford expects a 5 percent of F-Series buyers to opt for the diesel, Filipe said.

The 3.0-liter Power Stroke turbo diesel makes 250 hp and 440 lb-ft of torque. The same powertrain team behind the 6.7L designed and engineered the new 3.0L Power Stroke V6 diesel engine for North American F-150 customers who tow and haul frequently.

The school, which charges £14,550 ($19,740) per year, was classed as "outstanding" at the last official inspection in 2012. Twitter followers commented on Princess Charlotte's cuteness and her royal bearing.

- Customers can order a diesel F-150 starting this month. An aluminum body and bed, first introduced on the F-150 in 2015, reduces weight and improves fuel economy.

Already the leader in full-size pickup engine choices (five), Ford looks to tighten its grip on sales leadership in this profitable class with the addition of a diesel engine option for the F-150.

"We know that competing diesels with electric cooling fans have to dial back on power under extreme heat and altitude, so we decided on a viscous-controlled mechanical fan that has the capacity to move much more air across the radiator and intercooler in extreme conditions", David Ives, Ford diesel engine technical specialist, said in the announcement. It will also come with auto stop-start as a standard feature.

Engine components such as the crankshafts and rod bearings were upgraded for additional strength and durability. Dual grille shutters can open and close automatically, enhancing aerodynamics for better fuel economy or optimizing airflow for more power. "You get out on the road and swear you're driving a gas engine".

Ford has finally released the spec sheet for their Ford F-150 Diesel model.

Considering that Ford sold almost 900,000 F-150s in 2017, about 300,000 more than the Chevrolet Silverado, its nearest competitor, that would be no small feat.

Overall, automakers sold 2.4 million full-size pickup trucks past year, an increase of 5.6 percent compared with 2016.
