O'Hara says temperatures next week are expected make it into the 30's and 40's.

The National Weather Service has also issued a winter weather advisory for the region until 6 p.m. Saturday amid the cold temperatures and wind causing blowing and drifting snow on the roadways.

The warmup New Yorkers have longed for is forecast for Monday, with temperatures projected to reach at least 30 degrees and gradually making their way into the upper 30s and low 40s as the week goes along. Areas along the outer Cape could see snow showers Saturday night.

The next weather system is due to affect the state starting late Sunday and will bring precipitation chances to much of the state through Monday. This is the greatest concern for the Monday morning commute.

Freezing rain is possible Friday morning and is likely Friday night at Meacham, Ore., according to the weather service. Bridges and overpasses will be trickiest if not treated. Less than a tenth of an inch of accumulation is expected.

Saturday is expected to be mostly cloudy with a high around 56 degrees, National Weather Service meteorologist Russell Danielson said.

With very cold roadways from the recent cold spell, a light glazing of ice will be possible before air temperatures warm above freezing by early afternoon.
