Helena Bonham Carter to play Princess Margaret in 'The Crown'

If the critical raves surrounding the first two seasons of The Crown weren't enough to get you to watch, maybe the casting of Helena Bonham Carter will. Carter was previously rumored to be in the running to play Elizabeth, but that lead role ultimately went to Olivia Colman, who will replace Emmy nominee Claire Foy.

The Ocean's 8 actress is in talks to take over the role of Princess Margaret, which was originated by Vanessa Kirby in the lavish Netflix series.

Carter is reportedly nearing a deal to ascend to The Crown, according to Entertainment Weekly.

Series creator Peter Morgan has always said that he meant to replace key cast members in later seasons, to better portray the main characters as they age.

Helena bonham Carter is rumoured to be next in line to play Princess Margaret in the Netflix drama The Crown. She has some experience playing a member of the royal family.

The 51-year-old actress is "all but confirmed" to play the part of Princess Margaret - Queen Elizabeth II's younger, and at times controversial sister - in seasons 3 and 4 of the critically acclaimed series, the UK's Evening Standard newspaper reports. Bonham Carter is truly a brilliant actress, but after too many turns as wacky Tim Burton characters, we're anxious she could ham this up a bit. The first two seasons covered the first 15 or so years of the queen's reign in the 1950s and 1960s.

Carter's most notable roles include an Oscar-nominated turn in Tom Hooper's The King's Speech opposite Colin Firth and an unforgettable character in David Fincher's Fight Club opposite Brad Pitt and Edward Norton. Princess Margaret's relationships with Peter Townsend and Antony Armstrong-Jones were both featured, with her marriage to the Earl of Snowdon taking place in the second season.
