Temporary outage at Customs leads to longer lines

Temporary outage at Customs leads to longer lines

The outage hit airports including JFK, San Francisco and Denver, even as worldwide travellers arrived from holiday travels on New Year's Day. "At this time, there is no indication the service disruption was malicious in nature", Customs and Border Protection spokesperson Jennifer Gabris said in the statement.

While Customs said its systems were restored by about 10 p.m., airports warned passengers to expect delays tonight. Acting Port Director Carlos Rodriguez of Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas Port of Entry said CBP officers "continue to make significant narcotic seizures by combining their experience with the use of technology and other available tools to accomplish the CBP mission".

The agency reported that it still had access to national security-related databases during the disruption, and all travelers were screened according to security standards.

Mariah Carey 'Wanted to Prove Herself' With New Year's Eve Comeback Performance
Mariah Carey performs on " Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin" Eve' at Times Square in New York City on December 31, 2017. She started a two-song set at 11.38pm with Vision Of Love , her first single, from 1990.

The major airports caught up in the technical glitch include JFK Airport in New York, LAX and Miami International Airport. The New Year's Day disruption is oddly similar to one that occurred last year on January 2 - also the first Monday of the year.

Operations at other major airports, including John F. Kennedy in NY and Fort Worth International in Dallas, were also impacted. Line is a few 100 deep. "Happy New Year!" said Jessica Yang, a program manager at Microsoft, in a Twitter post.

Passenger Alex Azar posted photos of the stalled lines at San Diego International Airport Monday. A similar outage had hit computer systems a year ago. Several other airports said they were affected.
