All Hail Mariah Carey, Conqueror of New Year's Eve

All Hail Mariah Carey, Conqueror of New Year's Eve

The singer, whose year-earlier gig on "Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve with Ryan Seacrest" was rapped, didn't get the tea right away. It appears that pre-show soundcheck worked.

It didn't go entirely without a hitch, though-after performing her first song, "Vision of Love", Carey discovered all she wanted for New Year's (hot tea) was not available.

It paid off. In a made-for-television act of pop culture redemption, Carey's performance made it to the finish line, except for the desire for hot tea. After Mariah Carey proved once and for all that she can indeed sing live - in frigid temperatures and while wearing a revealing gown, no less - the singer's fans are all about the tea.

"I just want to take a sip of tea if they'll let me - they told me there would be tea", she said, before evidently being told that there wasn't any. "Oh, it's a disaster".

But all was forgotten this time around: "I'm feeling a lot than past year, when I had to get my own police escort", Carey told Seacrest after he congratulated her on the broadcast.

Carey told the audience, "I was told there would be tea".

2018 is off to quite a start.

Iran restricts social media networks used by protesters
Although small, the anti-government protests on Saturday took on a much greater importance than the government-sponsored rallies. Anti-government protesters have largely relied on Twitter and Telegram social networks to spread information about the protests.

Fans took to Twitter to react to the hilarious moment.

Not surprising, given that last year's performance resulted in her storming off stage.

Oh, Mariah - only you! "I'm gonna be just like everybody else with no hot tea!"

"Happy New Year!" Carey said, as she addressed the crowd.

Within seconds, instead of singing the song, she ordered her dancers to "just walk me down", referring to steps on the stage.

Mariah then belted out her iconic track Hero to the delight of the crowd.
