Clash outside Coptic church in Cairo leaves at least 9 dead

Previous bombing attacks targeting Coptic churches in Egypt have killed dozens of people.

He then proceeded to attack the Mar Mina church, leaving nine dead, "before security forces wounded and arrested him, confiscating his weapon", the ministry statement said. A suicide vest or explosive belt was found on the dead attacker, indicating a far more devastating atrocity was planned.

At least three people have been killed after a gunman opened fire at a Coptic Christian church in Egypt.

The local affiliate of the extremist Islamic State group claimed responsibility for the attack late Friday, saying it was carried out by a "security detail" and that one of its men was "martyred" in the strike.

Christians, who make up about 10 percent of Egypt's population, have long complained of discrimination in the Muslim-majority nation, and say authorities have often failed to protect them from sectarian attacks.

Prepare pipes -- inside and out -- to weather the cold
As you treat the frozen pipe and the frozen area begins to melt, water will begin to flow through the frozen area. Also, consider moving pipes from exposed areas to better insulated areas to provide protection from freezing.

Five people were wounded, including another police officer, Health Ministry spokesman Khaled Megahed said.

Ahead of the January 6 Christmas celebrations, Egypt's security apparatus has been on high alert, deploying security personnel at churches across the country.

A video circulated on social media after the attack shows the dead gunman on the ground. Authorities closed off the area around the church.

The Interior Ministry identified the attacker as Ibrahim Isma'il Isma'il Mustafa, 33, who according to the ministry has been involved in several prior terrorist attacks. One of the a tackers had been killed and the other captured by Egyptian security.
