BPD offers thoughts, prayers after Hayward CHP officer dies

CHP Assistant Chief Ernest Sanchez said that Officer Andrew Camilleri, 33, died when a speeding red Cadillac hit the back of a patrol vehicle that Camilleri and another officer were in. The other driver was also taken to a hospital, officials said.

Agents trust the man's auto was going at a high rate of speed when he collided with the SUV, causing noteworthy harm and leaving the CHP vehicle a folded heap of metal.

All southbound lanes were closed and traffic was being diverted onto A Street. Both had seat belts on.

A red auto slammed into the SUV, leaving the CHP vehicle a crumpled pile of metal.

Russian emergency services released a video from the incident site showing the bus wreckage and ambulances. Moscow mayor Sergei Sobyanin took to Twitter to express his condolences to the victims and their families.

All three suffered injuries and were rushed by ambulances to local hospitals.

A 19-year-old woman was killed Saturday after the vehicle she was a passenger in went off the road, the California Highway Patrol said.

CHP affirmed Monday morning that one of the officers had passed on of his wounds.

Flags at the Capitol will be flown at half-staff in the fallen officer's honor. His partner, Jonathan Velasquez, survived the wreck with non-life-threatening injuries, according to Asst. Authorities did not release the suspect's identity, but said he is a 22-year-old from Hayward.

"Anne and I are deeply saddened to learn of the tragic loss of Officer Camilleri", Brown said. "We join his family, friends and the entire California Highway Patrol in mourning his death and in honoring his sacrifice", he said in the statement.
