German union calls for first-ever pilot strike at Ryanair

German union calls for first-ever pilot strike at Ryanair

VC were in Dublin this week with a view to meeting Ryanair and avoiding industrial actionbut the VC said in Thursday's statement that the talks were canceled at short notice because Ryanair refused to engage with two of the five VC members present at the negotiations.

Ryanair has also offered to hold talks on January 5 but Schulz said those talks were subject to the same conditions and so the strike would go ahead.

A German union has called on Ryanair pilots to walk off the job Friday morning, accusing the airline of staging a "publicity stunt" when offering to hold negotiations on pay and working conditions.

"In the history of the VC, there has not been a case in which the collective bargaining autonomy has been trampled on by an employer as it is now with Ryanair".

VC said all Ryanair flights at German airports will be affected.

Cockpit official Ingolf Schumacher said that suggested "the company is not interested in a mutually constructive cooperation".

The news comes on the same day as the trade union representing several Ryanair pilots and captains in Ireland confirmed that the airline now officially recognises it as the representative body of its pilots in Ireland.

Earlier, IMPACT said the airline had confirmed in writing that it recognised the union as the representative of pilots at the airline.

Giants Acquire Evan Longoria from Rays in 5-Player Trade
Denard Span , a 33-year-old outfielder, played 129 games for the Giants in 2017 , batting.272 with 12 home runs and 43 RBIs. However, there is a potential high reward which could return, Longoria is just one year removed from a 36-homer campaign.

One of the pilots was a contractor and one a direct employee, but Ryanair has ended both of their contracts, VC said.

Chief Executive Officer Michael O'Leary, who softened a longstanding anti-union stance last week, is under pressure to follow through on promises to recognize unions for pilots and flight attendants as he seeks to head off labor strife.

Ryanair said separately that it had formally recognized Impact while also submitting proposals on issues including pay and dispute resolution.

Ryanair has written to pilots saying it will contact their trade union today about formal union recognition. "Ryanair's delegation did not even enter the room", union President Ilja Schulz said.

Union representatives and pilots met with airline management for the first time on Tuesday in a dramatic shift of its policy not to deal with unions.

The airline is also meeting German pilots this week before other appointments around Europe, including Italy, in early 2018.

The decision came as it worked to avert a pilots' strike that had been planned for yesterday. "We hope to be able to say something with more substance before too long".

But IMPACT says it wants a document confirming its commitment to recognise the union.
