Matt Lauer, part of a wave of men accused of sexual misconduct this year, was the most-searched-for person on Google in 2017.

Apple's two iPhones also made it to the top in the global "Consumer Tech" search list in 2017.

Hurricanes Irma and Harvey took the first and eighth spots in the Top 10, and August's much-hyped solar eclipse came in at No. 7.

Following close behind Lauer were rock star Tom Petty, who died in October, the Super Bowl and the Las Vegas massacre.

The second top search was for former "Today" show anchor Matt Lauer, who was sacked from NBC last month for a complaint about inappropriate sexual behavior.

Egyptian pop star goes to jail for sexy banana music video
Shyma is only the latest Egyptian artist to be prosecuted for " inciting debauchery " with sexually explicit music videos. She was sentenced along with Gamal to two years in prison yesterday (December 13) for " inciting debauchery ".

The website's most searched people included Lauer, Meghan Markle and Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein.

The iPhone 8 is the second most searched keyword on Google this year, next only to Hurricane Irma that caused catastrophic destruction and killed more than 150 people. Last year, people mourned Prince, got lottery fever and, not surprisingly, searched all about the USA election.

The annual Year in Search analyzes Google Trends data to uncover "what the world was searching for".

One thing to keep in mind is that the statistics reflect the most searched terms on Google throughout the year so far. It is followed by iPhone X in the second position, video game console Nintendo Switch in the third, Samsung Galaxy S8 in the fourth and Xbox One X in the fifth position.
