Congress suspends Aiyar after his 'neech' remark

This is the second occasion where Prasad attacked the Congress after Aiyar called Modi a "neech aadmi" or "low person".

"The Congress party has served a show cause notice to Mani Shankar Aiyar and suspended him from the primary membership of the party", Surjewala said.

PM Modi also hit back at Congress after this remark and grabbed it as an opportunity offered to him on a platter. "If the Congress suffers any damage in the Gujarat polls because of my comments, then whatever punishment the party deems fit I will accept it", he said on the sidelines of an India-Pakistan seminar here.

The BJP's campaign has been sneakily communal - whether it is party president Amit Shah asking why the Congress and its leaders were soft on Rohingya Muslim refugees (whom the BJP refers to as terrorists), or when UP CM Adityanath exhorted at his rallies to shout "Bharat Mata ki Jai" so loud so as to be heard in Pakistan.

"We want to ask Modi ji, can you show similar courage?"

"They can call me "Neech"- Yes, I am from the poor section of society and will spend every moment of my life to work for the poor, Dalits, Tribals and OBC communities".

After the immediate suspension of veteran leader Mani Shankar Aiyar for his comments against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Congress launched a counter-offensive against the BJP for use of coarse discourse. "If anything- we will answer them for their mindset with our votes on 9th and 14th".

Modi was quick to respond to Aiyar's comment on Thursday itself.

Apart from making jittery jibes at Rahul Gandhi's temple hopping and sneering at the Congress about abandoning the Muslims during the campaign. Hence, Congress had to face humiliating defeat.

At another rally in Chhota Udaipur, Gujarat, Rahul Gandhi made a feeble attempt at damage control by saying that the Congress party acted against Aiyar.

First, full disclosure: I, like the irrepressible now-suspended Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar, am a south Indian, hence, Madrasi for most people up north.

"Going by the prime minister's language and the allegations that he is hurling I can say that he is rattled". Rahul Gandhi also asked Senior party leader Mani Shankar Aiyar to apologize for his comment. Earlier, during 2014 Lok Sabha polls, he had called Modi a "Chai wala", and the BJP had taken advantage of the controversy by terming it "insult of poor".
