John Oliver grills Dustin Hoffman over sexual misconduct claims

Anna Graham Hunter has alleged that Hoffman groped her and made inappropriate comments when she was a 17-year-old intern on the set of the 1985 TV movie Death of a Salesman.

Hoffman responded defensively: "It's hanging in the air?".

"I gotta say I don't love that response either", Oliver replied, to which Hoffman said: "What response do you want?"

While an occasional member of the film's audience may have wanted Oliver to ease up, a vast majority supported him with cheers when he made a good point, and cries of encouragement. "I'm guilty", the actor added sarcastically.

Hoffman remained defensive and agitated, complaining that he did not know the organizers of the event or Oliver were going to raise the subject of the allegations, despite their heavy coverage in news media when they broke last month.

In his original response to Hunter, Hoffman had written: "I have the utmost respect for women and feel awful that anything I might have done could have put her in an uncomfortable situation".

But Oliver didn't let go, and referred to the statement Hoffman released after the allegations surfaced: "You've made one statement in print".

Hoffman claimed he did not remember Graham Hunter, that he did not grope anyone, and that his agent and PR people had told him it was best to avoid getting into a lengthy dispute by simply apologizing.

"Well, I'm trying harder than you are", Hoffman said. "It's that kind of response to this stuff that pisses me off", Oliver said. "It's not reflective of who I am". If you've given no evidence to show it didn't [happen, ] there was a period of time for a while when you were a creeper around women.

Kevin Durant Ejected After Dust-Up With Boogie Cousins
It's unclear what was said here, but Durant thought the officials gave he and Cousins a premature hook . The Warriors (19-6) trailed by as many as 21 points late in the second quarter and by 20 at halftime.

Hoffman maintained he did nothing wrong and complained: "You've put me on display here".

The hour-long session ended shortly after, as the two were unable to move past the issue. Oliver was there to moderate a question-and-answer session about the film.

"Do you believe this stuff you read?" he asked.

John Oliver confronting Dustin Hoffman over sexual harassment allegations brought against the 80-year-old actor has garnered a wave of support from the Internet.

"Yes", Oliver replied. "Because there's no point in (an accuser) lying".

"I'm glad [I wasn't there]", the host replied.

It is rare these days where we actually feel like congratulating a man, but good on John Oliver for clearing the bar of actually making another man address rumors of harassment. "That leads to me at home later tonight hating myself, asking, 'Why the fuck didn't I say something?'" "No one stands up to powerful men".

The audience watching appeared divided, with many reportedly calling for Oliver to leave the line of questioning and return to discussing the film, while others in the audience seemingly standing up and applauding.
