Google plans big for entry level Android phones with Oreo Go

Android Oreo (Go edition) smartphones also come with a version of the Google Play Store that enables users to download any app, while highlighting the apps created to work best on Go edition devices. After the release, OEMs can start producing the low-end phones powered by Android Oreo Go. After Android Oreo, subsequent Android versions will also have a Go edition. The objective is to reach out to a larger user base and share the recent Android experience even with those who use entry-level devices. Google had first mooted the idea of Android Go at I/O conference in May.

This is the first time Voice Assistant will be available in any feature phone.

These basic devices often come very little storage space left once you account for the size of the OS and the preinstalled apps. Speaking about language, the Google Go app also lets users switch and see search results in different languages.

Today, at the third edition of its annual "Google for India" event, Google announced several new India-first products and features that offer a richer experience for the ever-growing base of Indian internet users.

As per Google's claims, on an Android Oreo Go-running device, an average application is about 15% faster.

There are now more Android users in India than there are in the USA, according to Google, and the company has its sights set on the "billions more" who don't yet have access.

And if you don't want any trace of your old Stories available privately to you, you can opt out and turn off Stories Archive . To create a Stories Highlight , tap on the "New" circle on the far left, and choose any of the stories from your archives.

Google introduced its new Datally app, which helps monitor and save mobile data. For example, navigation and directions on Google Maps will now come with a two-wheeler mode, which will show commuters routes through narrow alleys where bikes or scooters can easily venture. Google Go is available as a preview starting today on the Google Play Store in India.

Google's Play Store will also include a new section aimed at apps for entry-level devices, although these devices should also be able to download any app, assuming that there's room for it.

In a move to empower feature phone users in the country, Google on Tuesday announced to bring its Voice Assistant on Reliance JioPhone.

Google touts the Assistant for JioPhone as a special version designed for the JioPhone, and of course, it's built for India. He added, " Whether in entry-level smartphones or JioPhones, the Google Assistant can help you call, text, play music and videos, and access other apps".

Google also announced launch of bill payments on Tez.

Internet Saathi - Google plans to expand its "Internet Saathi" programme, run in partnership with Tata Trusts.
