San Marcos officer fatally shot while serving arrest warrant

"Along with everyone learning of a San Marcos police officer's murder today, I am deeply troubled and saddened", Paxton said.

San Marcos police officer Kenneth Copeland died Monday afternoon while serving an arrest warrant in a violent crime case.

Roy Moore thanks Trump for endorsement amid underage sexual assault accusations
Trump's move runs counter to many other Republican leaders who have repudiated Moore and called on him to exit the race. After the report, another woman came forward to accuse Moore of sexually assaulting her when she was 16.

Copeland, who was wearing a protective vest, was struck several times. At a Monday night press conference, Stapp told reporters that Copeland had served with the U.S. Coast Guard and had been with the department for 19 years. The suspect was shot during the standoff and has been transported to an Austin hospital. Stapp said it was unclear if the wound was self-inflicted or inflicted by police gunfire. He is survived by his wife and four children, according to Dallas News. "His picture is hanging in different parts of this police department because everyone here loved him", according to ABC affiliate KUVE. As the mayor noted we have to band together. We have to appreciate the fine men and women who are out there serving the public's interest in their jobs.

Block said the neighbors, for the most part, got along and this would be a hard blow for the residents to move past. Cecilia and I extend our heartfelt condolences to the officer's family and to the entire San Marcos Police Department. The men and women in law enforcement put their lives on the line every day to protect and to serve our communities, and we will never forget their sacrifices. As this story is developing, elements may change.
