Parthiv, Bumrah Named in India's Test Squad For South Africa Tour

The three-member selection panel, led by MSK Prasad and BCCI secretary Amitabh Chaudhary while addressing mediapersons announced the squad here on Monday for the upcoming three-match Test series against South Africa followed by T20 squad against Sri Lanka.

India, who are on the verge of equalling Australia's record of 9 Test series win in a row, will next visit South Africa for a three-match Test series where they will hope to break the record.

The frontline pace attack includes the likes of Mohammed Shami, Ishant Sharma, Umesh Yadav, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Bumrah.

Pacer Jasprit Bumrah has been included in 17-man India squad for South Africa Test series. Following that they will play a three-match ODI and T20I series against them, the Indian squad for which has also been announced.

Full Squad: Virat Kohli (Capt), Murali Vijay, KL Rahul, Shikhar Dhawan, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane (vc), Rohit Sharma, Wriddhiman Saha (wk), Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Parthiv Patel, Hardik Pandya, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Shami, Ishant Sharma, Umesh Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah.

Talking about the youngsters who made way into the Indian side for the first time, "The players selected themselves. He has not played a lot of competitive cricket lately", Prasad said. He explained that only two spinners were required for the tour and to select Kuldeep ahead of Jadeja and Ashwin would've been a big ask.

Parthiv Patel will also travel to South Africa as a backup wicket-keeper to Wridhhiman Saha.

"Otherwise, Kuldeep is definitely a top-class bowler and over a period of time we'll see him growing".

Yuzvender Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Deepak Hooda, Mohammad Siraj, Basil Thampi and Jaydev Unadkat are included for the three-match T20I series.
