Cold Weather Alert issued as Sussex temperatures set to plunge

These winds will bring in cold Siberian air, dropping temperatures all day Tuesday. Highest temperatures of just 3 to 6 degrees are expected.

Unfortunately, we won't be completely done with the rain Tuesday as lingering showers return Wednesday thanks to the passage of another upper level disturbance which will make for a rather raw feel with otherwise cloudy and cold weather with highs only in the 50s.

Met Office forecaster Mark Wilson told the Metro: "The first low pressure area sees windy conditions for the whole of the United Kingdom on Wednesday into Thursday, with gusts approaching 55 miles per hour near south coasts and 60 miles per hour near west coasts". If the model is right, that could mean two brief periods of light snow or snow showers.

There is a possibility of isolated, minor coastal flooding during the day Monday for Long Island Sound along northern Nassau and northwestern Suffolk, the National Weather Service said.

At the moment, it looks like rain will spread from the west on Saturday night and there a risk that it may fall as snow for a time in some parts.

On Thursday, Miller called on civilians to join law enforcement in the land and air search for 3-year-old Mariah Woods. The FBI later said the woman in the picture did not have any connection to their ongoing investigation to find Mariah.

Tuesday will start off warm with temperatures in the 70s by midday as a line of rain and storms moves through by early afternoon associated with a strong cold front. With temperatures expected to dip below freezing for many, any fog that does develop would have the potential to deposit a thin layer of ice on colder surfaces.

Wednesday: Mostly sunny; high of 44.

The mild temperatures seen over the weekend are not going to last, and the mercury is set to drop in the coming days. Friday will be mostly cloudy, with a high in the upper 30s and a Friday-night low in the mid 20s, the weather service said.
