Burqa-clad militants kill nine in Pakistan

A spokeswomen for two hospitals in the city said they had received nine bodies and were treating 38 injured people, including several in a critical condition.

Local newspaper reports said four of the terrorists have also been gunned down as they fought security forces.

The police contingent has reached the site and cordoned off the route leading to the university.

Police and military troops killed three attackers during a firefight and while clearing the complex in Peshawar, the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, they said.

Inter-Services Public Relations informed that two soldiers who were injured during the attack have been shifted to Combined Military Hospital for treatment.

The KP police said that all terrorists were neutralised after a successful clearance operation by the security forces. An eyewitness said he and his colleagues were sleeping when the firing started Geo News reported.

The main Taliban militant group, Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan, claimed responsibility saying the place they attacked was housing a secret intelligence office. "We took shelter inside the bedroom and were begging the injured student not to make any sound as the terrorists might hear it and kill us". They are loosely allied with the Afghan Taliban insurgents who ruled most of Afghanistan until they were overthrown by US -backed military action in 2001.
